Learning Japanese Lesson #1
Baka gaijin (hear it)
(When Japanese is romanized, pronounce each syllable ... ba-ka ga-i-ji-n).
Translation: stupid foreigner(s)
This phrase is occasionally uttered by native Japanese when a group of foreign kids (my brother or sister and friends) are being rowdy on public transportation. The intent is basically "Goddam foreign kids, shut the f- up." It is also heard sometimes for no apparent reason, because the particular native simply does not appreciate the invasion of foreigners into their pure land. You all can use this phrase as a preemptive strike and infuse humor into the situation. When applied correctly, this may have the same effect on the natives as Luke's often uttered, "I'm the asshole! We're the assholes!"
