Fearmongers Don’t Like Hair Styles of the 70’s and 80’s

February 5th, 2007 by Luke

Love these guys! Actually, this is somewhat ironic. On one hand They (Fox News) try to scare us and on the other They (Cartoon Network) try to sell us. Somewhere along the way Their plans collided and emptied Boston.

And what of us plebeians? We’ve grown so immune and impervious to marketing that add campaigns have to resort to these types of gorilla stunts just to get our attention. In stark contrast, we’ve become so utterly hyper sensitive to terrorist attack that we evacuated a city over some trivially obvious and meaningless publicity stunt.

Are we merely aimless bipolar consumers caught in the cross-fire between fear-mongering and marketing spam? What to do!? What to do!? Should I remain glued to the TV in sensational alarm or be drawn to it by stupid humor?

Perhaps, Off is the best channel or a good DVR with fast-forward or even better YouTube and an iPod. Dammit! I guess They still have me.

“That’s not a hair question.” A great parody of the White House press room too. And of course, LED throwies!!!

Jerks. They talk like they think they’re real revolutionaries, when in fact they put their toys around because they were paid to do so, so the Cartoon Network can make more money. Talk about dupes. The guy doesn’t care that a lot of people weren’t just inconvenienced — some poor suckers that are paid by the hour probably can’t make their rent payments this week because they couldn’t get to work because of the traffic backups these guys caused. At the same time, the police panic about anything related to “security” has gotten way out of hand. People keep mistaking inconvenience for security. And a lot of security people are just doing CYA in case something happens.

One last point. The guy with the dreadlocks is so proud of his hair it’s sad. I had hair as long as that back in the 70s. But no dreadlocks - I actually washed my hair every day, because I figured out in high school that girls don’t like stinky hair. But if I was being interviewed on national TV, I think I could have found something a little more meaningful to talk about than hair styles. We had a real movement back in the day — actually put a stop to the Viet Nam war and got Nixon impeached. At least we like to think we did….

Sorry for the rambling — had a long day….

    This whole thing is retarded!

Luke, you’re car scares me… what with it’s all wheel drive and it’s shady teal color. I’m pretty sure it’s a bomb. In fact, I’m going to call the police and tell them there is a bomb parked in a residential neighborhood in San Francisco. Ready to blow at any second. And the police will no doubt respond. They will call in the bomb experts, and they will evacuate the area, and a big hoopla will be made. And then they’ll find out that it is, in fact, not a bomb at all. It’s a just car that probably needs a carwash. And maybe some air freshener. And then, THEN, I think you should go to jail for your terrible, terrible bomb hoax! And you should be SUED! How dare you! Driving around in what looked like a car bomb. Getting everyone all worked up. Shame. And when the reporters come, oh! You had better take them seriously. Because that bomb hoax of yours… it was serious stuff.

    What’s wrong with people?

Yo - I’m in Boston at the moment. Wasn’t hear when it happened, but I’ve gotten the story from friends.

For the record, Boston was not emptied or anything close - sensationalist media strikes again. They shut down a few small segments of the public transit system and one or two roads for a few hours in the early afternoon while the police figured out what was going on (btw, police say that they knew the mooninites were harmless but that there were two legitimate pipe bomb threats in the city at the same time. whether that is true or they are just trying to make themselves look less foolish, I’m not sure).

There was public confusion for a while when the story first broke, but the truth came out before the evening rush hour so sounded like it was no big deal. And then CNN and Fox News started blowing it out of proportion, of course…
