Unanimous redefined

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006 by some dude

On Fox’s Unanimous, nine people are trapped in a bunker until they unanimously decide on one person to take home the 1.5 million dollar prize. The players are not allowed to vote for themselves. Um … so what they’re saying is, it’s not unanimous.

Solitaire

Tuesday, March 28th, 2006 by some dude

I’m pretty sure one of my cube neighbors is teaching another how to play Solitaire, right now, at work.  She’s walking him through a whole game, with tips and strategy and everything, very seriously.  Funny … teaching at work the quintessential bored-at-work game.  Of course, I’m no better since I’m writing this right now.  And who doesn’t know how to play Solitaire?!  …Oh yeah, I don’t.

Blogging with flickr

Sunday, March 26th, 2006 by Luke

So besides the pictures, this post has little to do about this backpacking trip. Basically, I wanted to tryout the flickr blogging features. I have to say flickr pretty much rocks. You can checkout my flickr photos here or on flickr.

UVA — Stanfurd

Friday, March 24th, 2006 by some dude

Found out Virginia was in the NITs the day of the opening round against Stanford, at Stanford, so Jay, Laura, and I went. I was pretty psyched. Till we lost by 20 points. Sad. There was no love. We counted maybe twenty orange shirts in the stands. Eh, the school is 3000 miles away, but still … there are more UVA alums in the bay area than that. Worse, though, was Stanford—half the arena was empty. Things Courtney hates is right (#46). No school pride. We thought it was spring break or something at first, but it wasn’t. They just don’t care.

This post is really just a random post to see how trackbacks work. Hey, I’m new to real blogs.

The “Don’t call me ‘Sir’” guy

Thursday, March 23rd, 2006 by some dude

I caught the end of American Inventor tonight, and a kid was pitching his idea to the panel. He was a black kid, maybe from the south. When they started asking him questions, he answered them, “Yes, sir…. No, sir…” Then one of the judges asks the kid not to call him sir, and looks appalled when the kid answers, “Yes, sir.” Hey judge: You’re a jackass. The kid’s not calling the you “sir” because he thinks you’re something special; he was raised to use “sir” to be polite. Don’t be such a conceited prick.

I worked on a project a while ago that was way behind, which means the customer comes in to “help.” On a couple occasions, I said something to him and he’d reply, “don’t call me sir.” Uuhh… I didn’t. The guy was so hung up on himself and his position (a big important customer—oooooh—working with a young new guy contractor) that he thought I was calling him sir.

If you find yourself telling people not to call you “sir” all the time (and you’re not in the military or some other organization where the use of “sir” is formalized) please get over yourself.

Engine 51

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006 by some dude

It’s been a couple months since anything has been added to the site. That’s because we had to update the site after getting mildly hacked, and it’s not all updated yet. Screw it, we switched to WordPress.

Anyway, a little update for now: Here are some new Urban Iditarod pictures. This year we went with a SF Fire Dept theme, with dalmatians of course, as Engine 51. I’ll have to put the movies up later.

Stuff…first post.

Sunday, March 12th, 2006 by some dude

This is the first post. Just want to see what it looks like. Welcome to the newer and improveder Chopstork. I decided to try out a real blog program and see if it can do the rest of the website too. Probably can, but I need to play with it first. And gotta decide what gallery to use … Flickr? Gallery 2? Something else? Blah blah blah. Stuff stuff stuff. The old site that still has everything on it is here .
